GENERAL:-

This course is aimed  at training the students in the universal language of engg. Graphics emphesises is laid on true  shape and size descriptions,use is made of the first angle system of projection and Indian standards of general engineering drawing practice in vogue

REVIEW:-

Indian standards : line symbols and line groups,sheet layout,rules of printing,preferred scales,theory of orthographic projection,technical sketching

SHAPE DESCRIPTION (external):-

Multi-planer representation: first and third angle systems of projection,glass box concept,sketching of orthographic views from pictorial view of components,conventional practices and precedence of view and lines

UNIPLANER REPRESENTATION:-

Sketching of pictorial  view(isometric and oblique views) from multi-planer orthographic views,reading exercises,missing lines and missing views exercises.

SHAPE DESCRIPTION ( internal ):-

Sectioning as an aid to understanding ,principles of  sectioning,types of sectioning,sectioning line,cutting plane lines and conventional practice

SIZE DESCRIPTION:-

Dimensioning,tools of dimensioning ,size and position dimensions,unidirectional and aligne ,system of dimensioning ,principles and practices in dimensioning ,do’s and don’t in dimensioning ,tolerances dimensioning ,dimensioning procedure

CONVENTIONAL REPRESENTATION:-

Representation and identification  of common machine elements and features.

Co-ordinate geometry of dimensions:-

rectangular,cylindrical,spherical,co-ordinate systems distance and angles,plane,straight line,intersection of line and a plane of intersection of three plane, shortest  distance,sphere ,tangent plane,intersection with plane and sphere,radial plane,cone,cylinder,coincides using vector methods as far as possible

Matrices:-

definitions,different types of matrixes,inverse of matrixes,Elementary row and column transformation, Rank of matrix, Linear dependence, Consistency of linear system of equations and their solution, Characteristic equation, Caley-Hamition theorem, Eigen values and eigen vectors, Diagonalisation, Complex and unitary matrices,quadratic forms, Application of matrices to engineering problems.

Infinite Series:-

Convergence and divergence of series, Test of convergence :Comparison test, Integral test, Ratio test, Rabee’s test, Logarithmic test, Convergence and absolute convergence of alternating series, convergence diffentiation ,integration of infinite series.

Series Solution and Special Functions:-

Series solution of ordinary differential equations of 2nd order with variable coefficients (Frobenius Method), Bessel and Legendre equations and their series solutions, Properties of Bessel functions and Legendre polynomials.

UNIT1:- CARPENTRY AND PATTERN MAKING :
Various types of timber and practice boards, defects in timber, seasoning of wood; tools, wood
operation and various joints; exercises involving use of important carpentry tools to practice various operations and making joints,plywood & board,glues,paints,varnishes & polishes,wood working lathe & band saw.

UNIT2:-FITTING SHOP:
Introduction of fitting practice and tools used in fitting shop; exercise involving marking, cutting, fitting practice (Right Angles),chisel,hacksaw,surface plate,v-block,punches,vices,hammers and dies,cold and hot working.

UNIT3.-FOUNDRY SHOP:
Introduction to moulding materials; moulds; use of cores; melting furnaces; tools and equipment used in foundry shops; ; exercises involving preparation of small sand moulds ,pattern,types of allowances,various mould method role of gate,runner,riser,chaplets,fitting and finishing,casting ,casting defects.

UNIT4:-WELDING SHOP:
Introduction to different welding methods; welding equipment; electrodes; welding joints; welding defects; exercises involving use of gas/electric arc welding,gas welding ,resistance welding & its type,thermit welding,electric & metal arc welding,submerged & plasma arc welding,ultrasonic laser welding soldering and brazing

UNIT5:-MACHINE SHOP:
machines, grinders etc; cutting tools and operations; exercises involving awareness,lathe parts and accessories,specification and various operation on lathe(turning,taper,turning,thread cutting,drilling,boring ,knurling),introduction to milling ,drilling,shapers and boring processcs.
