             ELEMENT OF MECHENICAL ENGINEERING

UNIT 1:- MECHANICS:-
Force system and Analysis:-basic concept of force,moment & couple ,principle of transmissibility,Laws of motion. Transfer of force to parallel position. Resultant of planer force system. Free Body Diagrams, Equilibrium and its equation varigonon's theorem, lami's theorem,various method of trusses,centre of gravity,centroid of area,volume & composite body,moment of inertia of plane figure , parralel & perpendicular axis theorem,law of dry friction.
kinametics of rigid body:-plane motion, absolute motion, relative motion.
kinetics:-plane motion , dynamic equlibrium,D'amblert principle, work & energy,impulse & miomentum,principle of energy consevation, principle of virtual forces.
UNIT2:-STRENTH OF MATERIAL:-
Stress and Strain Analysis:-Simple stress and strain: Introduction, Normal shear stresses, stress strain diagrams for ductile and brittle materials,Elastic constants ,strain  Energy. , hooks law,modulas of elasticity,poission ratio,elementary idea of shear forces,bending moment  Torsion Introduction, Torsion of Shafts of circular section, Torque and Twist, Shear stress due to Torque.
UNIT3:-THERMODYNAMICS:-
Fundamental Concepts and Definitions:-Definition of thermodynamics, system, surrounding and universe, phase, concept of continuum,macroscopic & microscopic point of view. Density, specific volume, pressure, temperature.cyclic process equlibrium, Thermodynamic equilibrium, property, state,path, process, cyclic process, Energy and its form, work and heat, Enthalpy. Zeroth law: Concepts of Temperature, zeroth law,reversible & irreversible functtion,concept of ideal gas,characteristics equation of gases ,universal gas constant.Laws of thermodynamics:-First law: First law of thermodynamics. Concept of processes, flow processes and control volume, Flow work,steady flow energy equation, Mechanical work in a steady flow of process.Second law: Essence of second law, Thermal reservoir, Heat engines. COP of heat pump and refrigerator. Statements of second law. Carnot cycle & carnot theorem, Clausius inequality. Concept of Entropy. otto cycle &diesel cycle-construction ,principle & working.Introduction to I.C. Engines-two & four stoke S.I. and C.I. engines.

UNIT1:-optics
Interference:-Coherent Sources, Conditions of Interference, Fresnel’s Biprism Experiment, Displacement of Fringes, Interference in Thin Films – Wedge Shaped Film, Newton’s Rings.and its application michelson morley experiment,special & temporal coherence.Diffraction:-fresnel & fraunhoffer diffraction Single and double-Slit Diffraction,plane transmissiondispersing power, Diffraction Grating, Raleigh’s Criterion of Resolution, Resolving Power of Telescope, Microscope and Grating.Polarization:-polarisation of light ,brewsters law , malus law,Phenomenon of Double Refraction, Ordinary and Extra-ordinary Rays, Nicol Prism, Production and Analysis of Plane,Circularly and Elliptically Polarized Light, Fresnel Theory, Optical Activity, Specific Rotation, Polarimeter.
UNIT2:-Electrostatics & Electrodynamics:-
Charge Distribution, Integral/Differential approach to. Gauss’s Law, Faraday’s Law, Amperes Circuital Law. Dielectric Polarization; Electric displacement and continuity equation, susceptibility and permittivity, Maxwell’s equation and their importance,lorentz force.
UNIT3:-X-Rays:-
origin ,Continuous X-ray spectra ; production of characteristic X-Ray spectra; Moseley’s law ; Bragg’s law and its applications in crystallography;absorption of X-rays and Absorption Coefficient ; Non-destructive techniques (qualitative idea),compton scattering.
UNIT 4:-Quantum mechanics:-
Need of Quantum mechanics, The Compton effect;matter waves; group and phase velocities,davison & german experiment Uncertainty Principle and its application; time independent and time dependent Schrodinger wave equation;  Born’s interpretation and normalization of wave function,  applications of Schrodinger wave equation.
UNIT 5:-Nuclear mechanics:-
nuclear forces ,binding of energy,nuclear  stability,quantative discussion of alpha decay and beta decay ,semi emperical mass formula,nuclear fussion & fission process,basic interaction,existence & nature of elementary particles.
UNIT6:-Theory of relativity:-Concept of ether; Michelson Morley experiment;Einstein’s postulates & theory of relativity and Lorentz transformation equations ; length, time and Simultaneity in relativity; addition of velocity, variation of mass with energy equivalence.
               ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

Unit-I:-fundamentals & circuits:
general concept of dumped & distributed parameters ,linear & non linear parameters ,passivee & active circuits,circuit elements(RLC,RL,RC) & their analysis,single phase & balance three phase circuit by phasor diagram.
Unit-2 :-D.C. Network Theory :
Circuit theory concepts-Mesh and node analysis.Network Theorems- Super-position theorem. Thevenin’s theorem, Norton’s theorem,theorem, Star Delta transformation.
Unit3:-Measuring Instruments:
Construction and principle of operation of energy,power,voltage and current measuring instruments in AC & DC circuits;single & double phase ;moving & non moving coil instruments.
Unit4:-devices & machines:
magnetic circuits & electric circuits,calculation of magnetism & hysteresis current.
Transformer:-Principle of operation, types of construction, phasor diagram, equivalent circuit, efficiency and voltage,regulation of single phase transformer, O.C. and S.C. tests. ,features of rotating electric machines generator,emf & torque,principle of synchronous generator.
D.C. Machines:-Principle of electromechanical energy conversion, types of d.c. machines, excitation ,armature reaction & commutation,E.M.F. equation, Magnetization and load characteristics, losses and efficiency, speed control d.c. motors, applications,DC generator starting speed control .
Three phase Synchronous Machines :-Principle of operation and application of synchronous motor.
Three phase induction Motor:-Principle of operation, types and methods of starting, slip-torque characteristics, applications.
Single phase Induction Motor :
Principle of operation, methods of starting.
Unit5:-Electrothermal energy conversion :
basic principle of electric resistence & induction heating.
